Middle School Volleyball 2017
Middle School Pilots the Play Better Program:
Play Better aims to change the game of school sports by changing the reward.
By focusing on player development and teamwork as the reward, Concordia is piloting a program to change the game and the way young players compete. Better people Pursuing Personal Excellence as players work as a team to achieve their athletic goals, better players teaming up to Be Active Global Citizens and give back in their community; in the end, it’s about everyone learning to Play Better.
With Play Better, players receive charitable rewards for achieving technical development milestones. The long-term impact is better players who understand positive impact beyond the scoreboard: citizenship, community investment, and personal growth.
Our goal in piloting this program is to deliver values based learning through sport specific and age appropriate development. Rewarding players with charitable donations (sponsored by a faculty member this season) for reaching their individual and team training goals is a simple way to allow each child to grow, on and off the court… This way the games become about more than the scoreboard. The greater community begins to focus on how their students are growing as individuals and they encourage the students beyond scoring goals.
