At Concordia we care about the development of the whole child.
In addition to promoting health and wellness, research has shown that morning exercise helps children to focus better in school (see 'Move Your Body, Grow Your Brain' and 'A Fit Body Means a Fit Mind' from Edutopia as quick reads on the subject). This has led to the creation of the Morning Marathon Club.
Every morning between 8:00am and 8:15 am, all elementary students will have the option to go to the field and either walk or run laps. We will keep track of the number of laps the students complete with their Morning Marathon Card. As students complete laps, they will earn beads to add to their Morning Marathon Necklace. One lap around our field is about 250 meters. This means that if students run or walk 168 laps around our field before the end of the school year, they will have completed a Marathon!
There is no need for you to sign your child up for the Morning Marathon Club - all Concordia Elementary students are invited to participate. If your child would like to walk or run in the mornings, they simply need to drop their bags off in the appropriate spot and grab their Morning Marathon Card when they arrive at school so that we can keep track of their laps.
If you have questions or are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Mrs. Christina Reed.
