Earth day is Saturday! As the final day for our Environmental health and wellness mini-unit, I have a large listing of articles, blogs, and videos on 'environmentalism'... by the end of class, I would like you to set a challenge (or a few) for yourself to work toward loving our world a little more. Whether it be attempting to go paper-free in your kitchen, or simply decluttering a space and donating the things you do use to be re-used and up-cycled, please be ready to share your results in a brief comment posted here before the end of our next class (Physical Health and Wellness with Ms. Harmony Adams - Program Manager, Health and Nutrition at Samaritan's Purse.

I tried but failed. For the first day, I was so motivated and I survived the entire day, but on the second day everything went sour. My mum brought home this really good peanut candy thingy. I felt really guilty but not guilty enough to stop eating eating it. After earth day, I felt really guilty for not completing my challenge so this entire week, I am going processed-free. It honestly did not make such an important in my world and I think it won't because I still produces a lot of trash nevertheless.

My challenge for Earth Day is to not use any non-decomposable objects- save the ones used for school.

I honestly completely forgot all about it, but I managed to do my challenge anyway. No non-decomposable objects were used and/or eaten by me all day.

This didn't really make that big of a difference in my life though.

My challenge was like a 50/50 success. I unplugged a device every time it wasn't needed and then other times i would forget to unplug.

I successfully used a maximum of 1 paper towel each time I made a bathroom trip and it was much easier than I thought. I'm probably going to continue doing it in the future because it's a good habit to get into.

My challenge for Earth Day was not to use electricity too much. I actually kept my promise. I turned off every electronics that I don't use. I also tried to eat small amount of food to save foods and decrease the amount of the food waste. I think I did well.

I tried to eat no beef, because cow farming is killing the environment. I instead tried to eat chicken and pork instead. However, I did drink milk, so if I did do it again I would instead find another source of calcium. It did not really make a difference in my world, so maybe I should try something more extreme.

My challenge for Earth Day was to go paper free and to not use the AC for 3 days. However, I only did it for one day and forgot to do it for other two days because I couldn't bear the hot weather. In that one day of not using the AC and going paper free, I found it super difficult. Also, it made no change to my daily life.

I avoided food wastage by finishing the dishes at home, especially the ones that were stored in the fridge.

It was a successful attempt because I also reduced the overall waste of our family, and it was satisfying to see that there was much more space in the fridge. I want to continue this habit to benefit not only my family, but also to improve our environment.

My plans were to pick up trash in my community. On Earth Day, my sister and I went outside along with some of my BIS friends. We brought bags and wore on gloves to pick up all the trash that we could find. We did this on Earth Day only. On other days, I just picked up any trash that I saw on the ground, not just in my neighborhood, but other places as well, for example, at school. Overall, I think I succeeded in achieving my goal and hopefully it helped contribute to the world's wellbeing. Personally I think it did. I am pretty proud and happy about what i did.

My challenge was to de-clutter my room. I ended up being a lot busier this past weekend that I thought, so I was not nearly as successful as I was hoping for. I did put together a bag of clothes to donate, though, and I am going to continue to de-clutter my room and wardrobe during this upcoming weekend. I do always feel god when I donate clothes and shoes. I feel less guilty for failing this challenge due to the fact that I'm already vegetarian and I do not consume a lot of dairy either. For these reasons, I do think I am at least a small bit environmentally friendly. Hopefully I'll be able to make up for this semi-failure during the weekend, though.

I tried to take up the upcycling challenge. Key word: tried. The idea was interesting, and I enjoy doing crafty Pinterest things once in a while. However, I forgot about it right after I came home. I was reminded of it by Kelly, but forgot about it again. In short, I wasn't successful with the challenge. However, I did try to go waste-free. It proved to be much harder than it seemed, because I had to choose the products I bought and what I used so that there wouldn't be trash afterward.

My challenge for the week was to take care of my plants (to make them healthier or just take care of them if they're already healthy). I think I did a pretty good job of it this whole week. They're in my room on my studying table and so I look at them very carefully everyday for new growth or if they came back to health if they were sickly looking. It made me happier overall.

I had been making a habit of turning off the lights whenever I exited a room and opting to buy more plants to somehow greenify my apartment. I think I am pretty successful in doing the former and I have started to scold my younger sister whenever she leaves the light on when she exits a room in our house. I would also like to think that I was successful in doing the latter because now we have around fifteen to twenty small succulents in our house, bringing much more life into our home.

I walked to go to academy instead of taking a taxi. Although I forgot everything besides that, it still felt good. I helped the world by using less amount of cars, which reduces the carbon dioxide. I felt good about that.

Ive tried to save water and amount of papers that I'd use. Through out the whole week I've tried saving water that I would use. during shower and or using scratch paper rather than brand new. Some how it did work out not really. I felt pretty cool after, able to appreciate what I've had, and thank the earth :)

I didn't have any goals for the earth day since I totally forgot about it. But that was because I celebrated earth day on earlier day of April. It was actually what "we" did in our compound. We turned off all the lights inside the whole building from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to save energy. It didn't really affect me since it wasn't a must to turn off all the lights, so I kept my desk-light turned on. But other lights were turned off. So I think I was successful.

My challenge on Earth Day was to declutter my room and create DIY from old materials. After cleaning my room, I gathered old materials such as old shoeboxes, glass containers, package boxes and turned them into more useful products. For instance, I used the old shoeboxes as sock containers. Also, I stored my pens and pencils in the glass containers.
